How to Change a .ca Domain's WHOIS Information

If your domain is pending approval by CIRA and has not yet been confirmed

We can change all the information related to your domain. Just open a support ticket and specify the changes you want.

If your domain has already been approved and registered

We can change the Administrative and Technical contacts' information of your domain, but can not change the Registrant's information.

Any request for changes to the Administrative or Technical contact of your .ca domain's WHOIS information must be sent as a support ticket to our technical team. If you change your contact's email address, an email with a confirmation of change will be sent to the original address.

If you do not have access to the original address and do not remember the CIRA identification number and password, you will have to contact CIRA's Member Services, as indicated on this page.

Administrative fees of 25.00$ + taxes will be requested for a manual change of the email address by fax, and will be charged to your account following the request.

To change a .ca domain's Registrant, you will have to perform an internal domain name transfer. To perform such a transfer:

  1. Open a support ticket requesting the transfer of your .ca domain, specifying the full contact information of your administrative contact: first name, last name, company, address, city, postal code, province, country, phone number, email address, registrar type (choose between Canadian Resident, Canadian Citizen, and Incorporated Business).

  2. A bill will be issued for the .ca domain name's transfer fees. It will be manually added to your account and will have to be paid. The transfer will add a year to the expiry date of your domain.

  3. Once the bill is paid, please reply to the already-created support ticket by specifying that you want to proceed with the internal transfer.

  4. A technician will confirm the transfer once it is initiated. To complete such a transfer, you will have to (1) confirm the new contact information with CIRA, (2) approve the transfer request from the administrative contact in the WHOIS listing. If you do not have access to this address, please consult the manual change procedure listed above.

  5. We will confirm by email the result of your transfer request once we have received confirmation from the registrar. Please expect up to 10 days for such a transfer.

Please note that the WHOIS information for a .ca domain can not be directly changed in the Client Area.
